In an era where digital signatures are the norm, the timeless charm of the traditional wax seal stamp remains unmatched. If you've been fascinated by this age-old craft and wondered how to design and make your own custom wax seal stamp, let us show you our process.
The Art of Craftsmanship: How to Make A Custom Wax Seal Stamp
DRAW/ CREATE/ DECIDE ON Your Design
The first step in creating a custom wax seal stamp is to decide on a design. This could be anything from your initials, a meaningful symbol, your business logo, or some other design that resonates with you. Keep in mind the size of your stamp; intricate details might be lost when engraved on a smaller surface.
If you're not confident in creating your own design, we have a range of semi-custom wax seal stamp designs that you can customise with your initials.
DIGITALISE YOUR DESIGN
Ideally, your design needs to be high contrast, and high resolution. If you're drawing your own design, we recommend using the Procreate app on an iPad Pro where you can draw directly onto the iPad using an Apple pencil. Canva is also a free, web-based program that you can use to create your designs. Good old pen and paper works too, as long as you use a black marker and scan it in high resolution.
You'll need to vectorise your design (e.g. using Adobe Illustrator) to be able to create engravable pathways. If you're unable to vectorise and engrave your design, you can upload your image files or .pdfs to our Custom Wax Seal Stamp listing, and we will engrave it for you.
ENGRAVE the Stamp Head
Once your design has been vectorized, it's time to bring it to life. You can use a laser machine or CNC machine to precisely engrave the stamp head. Remember, the design should be engraved in mirror image for it to imprint correctly.
We can engrave your custom wax seal stamp in as quickly as 2 to 7 business days on-site in our Melbourne studio (Australia). Local pick-up is also available.
Test Your Wax Seal Stamp
The final step is the most satisfying one – testing your new custom wax seal stamp. Attach the stamp head to a handle, heat up some sealing wax, pour it, and press your stamp into the wax. Admire your beautiful, custom wax seal with your unique design.
Conclusion
Creating a custom wax seal stamp is a delightful project that combines artistry, craftsmanship, and personal expression. The result is an impressive, timeless piece you can use to personalise letters, stationery, and gifts for your loved ones.
